Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen liked playing athletic games as a child and excelled in sports. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural gift for being a performer. She took home almost all Feis Award in the field of Drama and Theater Performance that her country had to provide. In her teens she was accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her fascination with classical theater and operatic music was pursued. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after seeing the Maureen screen test. He was captivated by the beauty of her eyes. Prior to casting her as a character in Jamaica Inn (1939), Laughton together with his friend, Erich Pommer, changed her name changed from Maureen FitzSimons to "Maureen O'Hara" which is a less slender name to be used for the marquee. Maureen FitzSimons' next movie (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1939-1939) was planned to be made at RKO Pictures in America under an agreement with Laughton. Maureen was able to purchase her contract from Laughton following the film's success. an enormous success. In the year 19 Maureen had already been in two motion-picture films with Laughton.
